In 1851, the first settlers moved into the Rockwall area, and as they began to dig wells, the settlers found amazing rock walls. Initially believed to be manmade because the stones fit together so well. These walls weren’t manmade, they are geological wall-like features that are jointed, natural sandstone dikes.  Grand wonders in the geological world, the town was named after these mysterious rock wall formations.  Part of this wall is on display outside of the Rockwall County Historic Foundation’s Museum.
